David Brice Innis Sterrett was born to David and Mary Sterrett in Erie, Pa. He graduated from Allegheny College in 1857 with a Bachelor and Master of Arts degree. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi and the "Society of Seven. He became a teacher for a short time and was admitted to the bar in 1859 and practiced law until his death.
